A chameleon is not only the most beautiful reptile in the world, it is also more intelligent than most people know.
There is no doubt that my chameleon can recognize me, i.e. see the difference between me as a person and others. Charlie already reacts when he sees me from a distance, i.e. when I enter the same room as his cage. And if I hold out my hand, he will relatively quickly choose to go out on my hand. He does not show that reaction to other people.
He also has a particularly spoiled demeanor. I have read that a chameleon can go on a "hunger strike" if it has been fed delicious worms, after which it refuses other food. I have not experienced that myself, but I have experienced that Charlie goes on hunger strike when the hot summer period is over, when he has got used to eating outside in the sun and wind. It turns him on, and when he is suddenly offered food inside, in his cage, he does not want to eat. Spoiled chameleon.
The fact that the chameleon can choose to go on hunger strike when conditions are not as desired, and the fact that he can recognize his owner, shows a higher intelligence than is normally seen in reptiles.
